AN EXHIBITION aiming to showcase the best in contemporary chair design will take place at the stately home Chatsworth next year. The headline exhibition, Make Yourself Comfortable at Chatsworth, the home to the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, presents items from the private collection of the Duke and Duchess as well as furniture made by internationally acclaimed and innovative designers such as Thomas Heatherwick and Amanda Levete, Marc Newson, Tokujin Yoshioka, Piet Hein Eek and Moritz Waldemeyer.
The exhibition will also showcase some specially commissioned pieces, including Raw Edges’ End Grain seating which will become part of the Sculpture Gallery, and Synthesis IV by designer Tom Price which will also be on display in the Chapel. As well as these designers, Chatsworth has commissioned three MA Design students from Sheffield Hallam University and one of its graduates, the British designer Daniel Schofield to create exclusive pieces for the exhibition. The show is curated by Exhibitions and Special Projects Curator at Chatsworth, Hannah Obee.
The Devonshire family have a tradition of commissioning and displaying leading artists and up-and-coming designers which began in the 17th century and continues to this day.
