Following in its long tradition of integrating the worlds of art and fashion, auctioneers Sotheby’s has invited renowned British fashion designer Erdem to guest-curate a sale of contemporary art this spring.
The designer, known for his experimental use of fabrics featuring bold design along with impressive craftsmanship, has made a selection of artworks that will form the Sotheby’s Contemporary Curated show taking place this March in London.
Erdem is the recipient of numerous accolades, including the 2010 inaugural Vogue/British Fashion Council Designer Fashion Fund Award, the 2014 British Fashion Council’s Womenswear Designer of the Year Award and most recently the 2015 British Fashion Council’s Establishment Designer Award. This guest-curated sale reveals his inspirations. Erdem says, “Art has always been a huge part of my life, and has often been a catalyst for my work.”
An art collector himself, Erdem picked works spanning half a century of artistic creation and include ground-breaking photography, Abstraction and American figurative painting. The selection, which has a total of 205 original pieces, also features some of the most notable contemporary artists, such as Yayoi Kusama and Antony Gormley.
