FOUR DAYS of events for fashion professionals and aficionados, the largest all-Finnish fashion event, the Pre Helsinki takes place next month for the third year running. A showcase for emerging Finnish fashion talent, with an emphasis on both fashion and art, Pre Helsinki features runway shows, seminars, exhibitions, workshops and other fashion-related events. The festival aims to promote up-and-coming Finnish fashion such as designers Laura Juslin, Sasu Kauppi, Saara Lepokorpi, Satu Maaranen, Elina Määttänen ja ensæmble who present their latest collections at the Design Museum.
Other events to look out for over the festival include lunchtime gigs organised at design duo R/H’s flagship store on Fredrikinkatu; a Fashion Film Night at the Design Museum programmed by New York Visionaire screening short films about Dior and Marc Jacobs among other; the Design Museum previewing its summertime exhibition of Finnish fashion with a designer meet-up and a workshop hosted by Hyères finalist, fashion designer Sophie Sälekari; Aalto University’s graduate show; Marimekko’s summer fashion show at Esplanadi park and a seminar at the Aalto University with various international speakers from different fields of fashion to discuss the new boundaries and possibilities of fashion and the value of creativity in today’s challenging ecological and economic climate. The seminar is programmed by Daniel Thawley, Editor In Chief of A Magazine.
Garments from Maaranen, Määttänen and other Pre Helsinki designers will also be available for one week at a temporary boutique in the Finnish capital.
Past year guests at Pre Helsinki have included Martine Sitbon, creative director Rue du Mail, Marc Ascoli, creative director and founder Atelier 32, Jonathan Anderson, designer JW Anderson, milliner Stephen Jones and Lou Stoppard from SHOWStudio.
