THE VICTORIA and Albert Museum has announced the innovative Balenciaga: Shaping Fashion exhibition that will open this spring. Focusing on exploring Balenciaga’s continuous creative impact the showcase will dissect his most prolific period – the 1950s and ‘60s. Showcasing 100 garments, 20 hats and numerous archive sketches, patterns, photographs, fabric samples and catwalk footage the retrospective will offer a unique insight into the working life of Cristobal Balenciaga, one of the most influential designers in modern history.

The first of its kind exhibition will also feature a fascinating study of the designer’s creations, conducted with the use of xray technology which V&A has deployed in order to scrutinise some of Balenciaga’s most famous pieces. The images have been created by Nick Veasey and then digitalised and animated with the help of London College of Fashion students.
