A painting by award-winning British artist Thomas Allen has been selected to be displayed at the Mall Galleries as part of the Columbia Threadneedle Exhibition. The annual showcase is a part of Columbia Threadneedle Prize which aims to bring the best in symbolic and evocative art to the wider audience. A panel of distinctive judges selects the most outstanding pieces for the exhibition and furthermore and overall winner.

This year’s panel consisted of Lewis McNaught, Director of Mall Galleries; Arturo Galansino, Director General of Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi; Tim Knox, Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge; Emma Crichton-Miller, an arts journalist for the Financial Times and Apollo Magazine; and David Dawson, an artist represented by Marlborough Fine Art.

What is PlantedWhat Is Planted by Thomas Allen

The painting by Allen is entitled What Is Planted and is a large-scale narrow work on paper that at two metres high rises over the viewer allowing them to fully immerse in its subtle exposition.

Allen is an artist that conveys the inquisitiveness of his milieu, leaving the viewer to ponder over and draw from the unknown and unexplained. This unique style has earned him his popularity and recognition and furthermore the accolade of having his work selected for the Threadneedle exhibition for the second year running.
