Norwegian Brand A.Andreassan Release Blush Mules for SS17

NORWEGIAN footwear designer A.Andreassen has released a blush mule for SS17. The shoe is the latest iteration of the brand’s Lille Elskling (or “little darling”) slipper design, the unique woven aesthetic of which derives its inspiration from the plaited paper heart ornaments that children in Scandinavia make at Christmas time, which are hung from trees and filled with edible treats during the festive period. The delicate rose of the new edition shoe hue renders it relevant and entirely wearable for the warmer summer season.

The mule perfectly encapsulates nonchalant Scandinavian elegance, as much as it does the Scandinavian concept of hygge in its luxuriant cosiness. The padded foot bed is fashioned from memory foam which melds itself to the wearer’s foot and therefore provides maximum comfort by relieving pressure from the balls of the feet.

The brand utilises high-quality materials, all of which are responsibly sourced from Italy and manufactured by family owned businesses in Portugal. The designs are then traditionally hand-made – a demonstration of skillful European craftsmanship.

Sophia Webster Introduces Customised Chiara Shoes

FIRST featured in her SS14 collection, the delicate, fairytale-esque Chiara shoes have since become Sophia Webster’s signature design, subtly re-created each season in new shades and altered shapes. But for the first time later this month, and for a limited time only, the British shoe designer will introduce a custom-made edition of the Chiara which will be exclusively available at the label’s flagship store in Mayfair.

Upon order, the Chiara’s butterfly-winged heels will be adorned with rainbow-coloured Swarovski crystals – each individual stone being applied by hand – making them the designer’s most intricate and luxuriant style to date.

Artists Take Over Gucci’s SnapChat to Launch Ace Sneakers #24HourAce

IN artist Winnie Chi’s upside-down heaven, a feisty green cherub wrestles with an angry swarm of bees before a thundercloud delivers her most yearned-for wish, a super-cool pair of Ace Sneakers from Gucci. Fairytale characters and a host of others comprise the many weird and wonderful animated artworks recently commissioned by Gucci’s creative director, Alessandro Michele for the brand’s latest project, #24HourAce.

Videos inspired by the embellished tennis shoe were uploaded to SnapChat from across the globe over 24 hours, starting in Tokyo and ending in New York. The videos are now part of Gucci’s new Instagram project to promote the international appeal of the snappy sneaker.

Littering their virtual landscapes with Gucci-inspired motifs, artists conjure up a postmodern fantasy of cutsey butterflies, Cheshire cats and collaged body parts. Either by motorbike or skateboard these glam sneakers certainly get around. James Kerr’s personified sneaker is definitely a professional weekender. After a hard day of clowning around, it even finds time to dance with Jesus. Like you do.

British Footwear Brand a Piedi Introduces its SS16 collection

BRITISH footwear brand a Piedi have launched their spring and summer 2016 collection. Established in 2009 by former investment banker Mariam Syed the company is dedicated to creating affordable flat sandals. Syed comes from a long line of leather experts as her family has been trading within luxury leather fashion and accessories for several decades and Syed herself decided to follow in their footsteps,  having spotted a niche in the footwear market for stylish and high quality sandals retailing at a reasonable price.

Specialising in flats, a Piedi (meaning “on foot” in Italian) is committed to creating elegant and timeless pieces highly suitable for the demands of the wearer’s busy life. The SS16 collection offers a wide selection within the brand’s three main lines – classic, resort and city – which are suitable for many different occasions.

The Classic collection features a variety of thong and H-bar sandals in a wide colour range – including metallic. The styles in the range come with feminine sounding names and have been designed with day-to-evening adaptability in mind.

Kenzo Pre-Fall 2016 Collection Announced

Japanese brand Kenzo have announced their pre-fall 2016 collection. Kenzo’s creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim said of the launch, “For our women’s collection for pre-fall 2016, we were inspired by the power of women. Our woman is equally a member of an all-girl biker gang as of a group of demure urban professionals.”

Leon and Lim ensured that the collection appeals to a modern woman who is not afraid of being a leader and expressing her personality through her fashion choices. Lacquered jacquard trousers with matching double breasted, origami cocoon jackets, printed indigo denims and floor-length dresses lend themselves to special occasions or days when one wants to experiment.

For everyday staples, the collection offers pleated stretch skirts, flattering tunic tops, classic separates and jersey dresses and add a bit of luxury with mohair and cashmere knitwear. To cover up in the colder months there are shaved shearling bomber jackets with kimono sleeves, puffer maxi-jackets and patterned swing coats.

Main silhouette of the designs is “spacious, layered and oversized”. It furthermore carries bold colours and distinctive prints of  “graphic Tanami flowers, half stars upon stripes, rising suns and soft abstract clouds” of separates in bold colours, flattering tunic-tops, the mid-length skirts and classic jeans.

Japanese influences carry into the accessories range made up of belts and embroidered chest plates. The sharp graphic angles also feature in the ankle boots with distinctive rectangular kitten heels, whilst the platform ballerina flats designs have been brought out back from Kenzo design archives.

The biggest treat however have been reserved for the bag lovers as Kenzo brings the Tanami flowers’clutches alongside two new designs: a rectangular leather satchel Rizo and the nylon jacquard Champ selection of functional sports bags distinguished by origami construction.

Tabitha Simmonds, English designer and former model, carries the floral trend over to SS16 for her eponymous line with her English garden-inspired collection. Crafted by master cobblers from Italy to ensure the highest of quality, Simmons designs feature a variety of brightly coloured blooms on plain backgrounds.

Combining leather and raffia embroidered lace and linen Simmons created pieces appealing to wide audience as it features flats, platforms as well as different heel heights. The styles also include both pointy and peep-toe to suit different occasions.

The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers Support Shoe Exhibition

ONE of London’s oldest livery companies, The Worshipful Company of Cordwainers, have announced that they are one of  the major supporters of the forthcoming exhibition Shoes: Pleasure and Pain to open at the Victoria and Albert Museum later this year. This show explores the extremes of footwear from around the globe.

Building on the success of the inaugural Cordwainers’ Footwear Student of the Year competition last year, footwear students from De Montfort University, University of Northampton and University of the Arts have been invited to enter this year’s Cordwainers’ Company National Footwear Student of the Year Competition 2015.
The Company has spearheaded this national award, as they believe is it is a “opportunity for the Cordwainers to lend the excellence and prestige of their livery company to the very best in British footwear design”. The  Company will also be hosting the award ceremony  at the V&A with prizes ranging from  £5,000 to £1,000 will be presented to the winners at the museum on 18 June.

The Cordwainers is renowned for its strong charitable ethos and as a world leader in the education and support of the shoe industry, with their primary focus being to nurture young talent, providing bursaries to students and entrepreneurs enabling them to become top shoe designers. Graduates from Cordwainers College (before it was merged into London College of Fashion) include Patrick Cox and Jimmy Choo.
