BFC Announces 2016 Fashion Awards Nominees

THE British Fashion Council has announced the nominees for its 2016 Fashion Awards, which each year recognise the achievements of industry forerunners in a select number of categories, to include designers, business leaders and models. The announcement was made by Dame Natalie Massenet, chairman of the BFC alongside Caroline Rush, the organisation’s CEO and Karlie Kloss, ambassador for Swarovski – the event’s main partner. The announcement was made at an exclusive event held at Soho House in LA.

Earlier in the year, 1500 of the fashion industry’s most authoritative figures –  journalists, retailers, photographers, art directors, set designers or show producers to name but a few – put forward the names of individuals, or indeed brands, whose success they believe is particularly deserving of recognition over the past twelve months. Nominees represent the five names that received the most submissions in each category, which this year are the following:

British Emerging Talent: Alessandra Rich, Charles Jeffrey, Faustine Steinmetz, Molly Goddard, Self Portrait

British Menswear Designer: Craig Green for Craig Green, Grace Wales Bonner for Wales Bonner, Jonathan Anderson for J.W.Anderson, Tom Ford for Tom Ford, Dame Vivienne Westwood for Vivienne Westwood

British Womenswear Designer: Christopher Kane for Christopher Kane, Jonathan Anderson for J.W. Anderson, Roksanda Ilincic for Roksanda, Sarah Burton OBE for Alexander McQueen, Simone Rocha for Simone Rocha

British Brand: Alexander McQueen, Burberry, Christopher Kane, Erdem, Stella McCartney

International Business Leader: Adrian Joffe for Comme des Garçons & Dover Street Market, Christopher Bailey MBE for Burberry, Guram Gvasalia for Vetements, Marco Bizzarri for Gucci, Stefano Sassi for Valentino

Recipients will be announced at a prestigious gala ceremony held at London’s Royal Albert Hall on Monday 5th December, as will a small number of additional awards, acknowledging career milestones achieved by 4 particularly influential individuals, be presented on the night.

The evening’s proceeds will be donated to the BFC Education Foundation, which nurtures Britain’s young creatives by offering a select number of scholarships to some of the country’s most esteemed fashion colleges, with the intention of fostering the industry’s future leaders.

The BFC Announces Categories for 2016 The Fashion Awards

THE British Fashion Council in partnership with Swarovski has announced the categories for 2016 The Fashion Awards which will launch this year’s fundraiser gala for British Fashion Council Education Foundation charity – an organisation offering scholarships to the gifted creatives for best fashion universities in the UK.

The annual event has been long established as one of the most prominent ones on the fashion calendar – the greatest of the industry gather to celebrate international as well as homegrown emerging talents.

Taking place on Monday December 5 at the Royal Albert Hall the awards this year will acknowledge designers and their brands in seven international categories and four aimed at the British talent paying homage to the host city London. The winners will be decided by a panel of over 1,500 industry influencers across media and retail professions who will cast their votes for the deserving nominees.

On the night the British accolades will be granted to British Menswear Designer of the Year, British Womenswear Designer of the Year, British Brand and Emerging Talent Award, while the international awards will seek to recognise Model of the Year, Ready-to-Wear Designer of the Year, Accessories Designer of the Year, Urban Luxury, Creative Influencer, Business Leader and Fashion Icon which will be voted for by the pubic.

Furthermore four special recognition awards will be announced ahead of the evening for Outstanding Achievement Award, Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator, Special Recognition Award and Swarovski Award for Positive Change.
